About Us

ozark bantams, ozarks, current river, southeast missouri

Welcome to Ozark Bantams, and thank you for visiting our web site. We maintain a very pampered flock of feather-footed cochin bantams. We keep both the black and white variety of this breed. We also raise white call ducks and black east indies, both of which are bantam sized domestic ducks. In ornamental wild fowl, we raise mandarin ducks and golden pheasants. Our small avian hobby farm is nestled in the Ozark foothills of Southeast Missouri near the beautiful and scenic Current River. Although we often have pet and breeder quality birds and hatching eggs available for sale, we are backyard poultry and aviculture hobbyists, not breeders of show quality birds. In other words, we do not raise fowl for exhibition purposes. Instead, our primary goals are to raise these fowl for enjoyment and to breed healthy birds that conform to type and breed characteristics without compromising egg production and fertility.

We acquired our first generation of black cochin bantams in the spring of 2007. We have since introduced (i.e. out-crossed) a new line into our original flock with the goal of improving type, egg production, and overall flock health. In 2009, we began keeping white call ducks and mandarins.
We currently have three pairs of mandarins, including two pairs of split-to-white mandarins and one pair of white mandarins. In 2009, we also acquired a nice pair of white cochin bantams. This pair will serve as the foundation stock for a future flock of white cochin bantams. As of February 2010, we began raising red golden pheasants, an ornamental breed of pheasant from the forests of central China. We are very pleased to have aquired excellent stock of this beautiful and exotic bird.

We are a member of the American Bantam Association, National Call Breeders of America, and the Heart of America Game Breeders' Association. In October of 2009, we were pleased to become certified as a pullorum-typhoid clean flock in accordance with the National Poultry Improvement Plan. Our unique N.P.I.P. participant number is #43-699. We are very proud to be sponsored by Brinsea, one of the leading manufacturers of incubators and other avian products. We use only Brinsea products for incubating our bird's eggs. And we're glad to recommend their products to visitors of our web site.
